A big factor of all this is the fact that they are not shy when it comes to approaching athletes and getting their endorsements. Just how many athletes have endorsed Nike?
Well, the rough estimate is that Nike sponsors 16,900 athlete. However, the numbers are always growing by the second as many players are making themselves known through various sports. The check is always a first-mover when it comes to signing deals and is often why many people recognize the brand.
A big factor amid all of this is the names that they have pulled to make a name for the brand. It comes to no one's surprise that they have a choke hold of the basketball market because of both LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Cristiano Ronaldo is also on their side in the world of football. Despite losing Roger Federer, both Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams still stayed with Nike as well.
Overall, Nike has invested a whopping total of $1.67 billion in just their athlete endorsements. This propelled them to being the top sports brand in the world despite competitors like Adidas and Under Armour making big strides.
